While many students love the exhilaration of throwing the ball, or hitting touchdowns on a Friday night, some prefer getting comfortable on the couch and playing online games instead. E-Sports club was created to bring lovers of video games together to make a fierce and outstanding team of gamers. E-Sports club meetings are held each Wednesday from 4:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. in Mr.Jones’ classroom at G236, though these aren’t the only times the members get together.
“We all actually host practices at our own houses, and it’s my favorite thing to do because we’re there playing video games, but more importantly
we’re there hanging out with each other and learning who we are outside of the screen,” senior and head officer Kamas Held said.
Lots of great memories are made in E-Sports club. Apart from attending events together, friendships form because of silly things that
happen after spending so long together as a team.
“There was a student that was streaming– he was doing a shout cast. So he was one of the announcers and he was just nervous and he introduced
himself as Robert Eccles from Steele representing Steele, and we just ran with that and made his name longer and longer each time we said it,” Mr.
Jones said.
E-Sports offers all sorts of opportunities to play your favorite games, popular ones being Super Smash Bros, Marvel Rivals, and Fortnite. For most, the biggest reward of coming to their tournaments is the ability to spend time with friends and people from rival schools.
“The whole time we’re there as a team watching each other play the game, watching people from other schools… It’s a tournament bracket and you fight other schools and it’s really fun,” Held said.
E-Sports holds plenty of tournaments as opportunities to show off your skills, the next one being December 13 at Tech Port Boeing Center.
