FFA doesn’t just grow plants, they also help their members grow into leaders. FFA has competitions where students can compete in different categories and gain new skills in the process.
“FFA is a national student-run organization that promotes agriculture and leadership skills. To be in FFA means taking every opportunity you are given and growing from it,” Jordann Neskora (12) said.
FFA gives students the opportunity to improve or gain new skills.
“Whether that’s becoming a better speaker, a more knowledgeable teacher, or even just being a role model for the people around you, FFA gives every student the opportunity to gain new skills and be an example of what a good leader is,” Neskora said.
FFA isn’t just about plants and farming.
“People should join FFA for the experiences and connections that you will gain through FFA,” Neskora said. “FFA has so many opportunities to compete and have hands-on experiences at agricultural facilities which provides students with the opportunity to learn and grow in fun interactive ways. Also because FFA has so many different opportunities you will always have the chance to meet new people with the same interest as you and connect over shared interests. In FFA you can gain skills in a wide array of areas from speaking skills to knowing what it takes to raise an animal or grow plants in a greenhouse.”
At FFA competitions people can compete in many different categories and events.
“I completed the FFA senior Quiz LDE,” Natalia Sanches (12) said. “Senior Quiz is essentially a test that you take that goes over your parliamentary procedure that you use in meetings and events. It also goes over your farm facts, what is raised here in Texas as well as across the United States. It goes into the livestock that we manage here that we raise, produce and then sell off to other places, and then it also delves into the people of the agricultural business that stand in congress or just high members of organizations.”
In preparation for competitions, people use various different methods to study.
“To study for this quiz, I was given this huge packet for our farm facts and everything but also online there are certain websites such as Blooket, Quizlet, where you can find the information that provides you the knowledge that you need for the quiz,” Sanches said.
Now our FFA members are preparing for the next competition for CDE’s this December.
