On March 23, 2024, Dean Jeffords (9) got first place with a height of 11’ in the pole vault event at a track meet.
Jeffords is a freshman and has been pole vaulting for 2 years, which he spent at Dobie. Last year, Jeffords sustained an injury while pole vaulting where he fractured his spine trying to jump 11’. Nevertheless, Jeffords recovered and trained harder than ever to make up for what he lost. He started his freshman season only being able to jump 9 feet. But he worked his way back up and achieved a new personal record of 11’.
“I’m pretty mad I did not get it, but coming back from an injury, I think I did pretty good. And if anything, I will just be the best sophomore in Steele history,” Jeffords said when asked about his feelings about not jumping 11’6” to break the record.
Jeffords is a skilled athlete. He is not only in track but primarily focuses on football, where he is a line backer. Jeffords trains very hard for the things he loves to do and is on schedule to be a very skilled young athlete.
