Theatre has such a broad spectrum, acting as a facet for so many different themes, genres and stories. Finding Corey Taylor is a perfect example of that.
Finding Corey Taylor is “about this girl who is traveling across the United States, trying to find herself with her best friend,” co-director Maya Washington said.
When it comes to theatre, there are two main groups that are involved in a show: the actors who do all the front stage work and the techs. Techs do a lot of the backstage work and help keep things together, and there are many different subsections of tech work, like lights, props, etc. “I like costumes and make-up the most because I think that’s the most creative, and they can be really telling to your character,” Washington said.
It takes a certain personality to do well as a tech. “I think as long as you’re dedicated, you just have to show that because that’s what it is, putting in the work and being able to work with others,” Washington said.
There’s a lot of things in the show that could be one’s favorite, and for Maya Washington, her favorite part of working on this show was, “seeing the process of everybody being able to grow and improve on their characters and their goals in the show,” Washington said.
Throughout the show, the main obstacle for Washington was reaching all the deadlines.
“Finding Corey Taylor is going to be an amazing show because it has an amazing cast and amazing tech, and I’m really excited to put it on,” Maya said.
