The Varsity Girls started training all the way back in August to prepare for tryouts in late November. Pre Season gets serious in December which means tournaments are happening and the girls must stay extremely focused to prepare for the upcoming season.
“I think it didn’t go that well. I could’ve had a better attitude during the season and the way I worked through things with teammates, but I think I grew as a player,” Mckenna Maruquin, 11 said. “I was able to see the field in new ways then how I used to.”
Even though the girls didn’t end or start the season the way they wanted to, they stuck together as a team and got over the bumps in the road that would help lead them to having one of the strongest bonds on and off the field.
“It was a good season. I feel like we’re a lot closer than last year,” Alia Gordon, 12 said. “Our bond is stronger. We had a disappointing end, but I’m really proud of all that went in.”
Throughout the season, the girls would have holiday themed parties, and got together twice a week for a team dinner. After each game, no matter win or lose, the girls would go to Canes to celebrate.
“It went pretty good,” Kayleigh Carrick, 11 said. “It was a little rocky at the start, but we figured it out by team bonding, and we grew stronger as a team on and off the field.”
In a whirlwind of an extremely long season, the girls won 62% of the games, tied 19% of them and lost 19% of the games.
The girls placed second overall in districts and went to one round of playoffs, which ended their season.
